1977

Milton and Joan Cumbo establish Bronze Bearings, Inc. as a distributor of standard commercial bronze bushings and washers. The company occupies a small warehouse (900 square feet) in Livonia, MI.

1981

With the company now offering secondary work (oil grooving, drilling, etc.) and with increased sales, Bronze Bearings, Inc. moves to larger quarters in Novi, MI. It is during this period that BBI first begins to offer bronze details complete per print. Multiple engine lathes, support equipment and our first CNC Lathe are all acquired.

1985

With demand for machined components increasing, it is during this time that Bronze Bearings, Inc. greatly expands their capabilities. Now utilizing both CNC lathes and mills, and offering additional services such as honing, threading, etc.. It is also during this period that Ron Cumbo is named President and CEO.

1990

With the purchase of additional CNC equipment, stocking inventory of raw material, and a larger staff… Bronze Bearings, Inc. moves to larger facility, again in Novi, MI. BBI will remain here for the next twelve years.

2002

After the purchase of their current facility, Bronze Bearings, Inc. moves back to Livonia, MI.

2010

Pro-Tec Machine, Inc., a successful CNC manufacturing company based in Commerce, MI joins BBI in January of 2010. Robert Cumbo, owner of Pro-Tec Machine, brings a wealth of machine knowledge and leadership skills to Bronze Bearings, Inc. As Vice President and COO, his impact is immediate and positive. BBI continues to expand their capabilities, now offering Wire EDM.

2014

The consolidation of our Commerce location into Livonia affords the company additional efficiencies and improved competitiveness in our industry.

2017

Robert Cumbo is named President of Bronze Bearings, Inc. in January 2017. Being the founder and President of Pro-Tec Machine, Robert demonstrated the executive and shop management skills that made Pro-Tec a successful enterprise. As Vice President and COO of BBI since 2010 Robert has introduced modern manufacturing controls that have BBI positioned for continued growth and success.
